Greene County Jail VINE Scope
The local service is Virginia Jail VINE. Central Virginia Regional Jail, or CVRJ, promotes it as the public digital route for custody information and notification. That matters in Greene County because the county does not run a standard standalone adult jail. Adults arrested on Greene charges may be held at CVRJ in Orange, a regional facility serving five counties. No public CVRJ roster exists. VINE therefore gives a named-person status path that the jail website does not provide.
Virginia Jail VINE covers the local and regional jail side of custody. It can report an event sent by CVRJ, but it is not a court docket, a certified release log, or a permanent archive. A person can leave CVRJ through community release, transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections, movement to another jail, or action on a federal or immigration hold. The reported event must be read with the destination and the release authority.
The CVRJ home page directs users to the official VINELink portal. The captured portal is the correct public starting point for a Greene County VINE inmate check.
The screen supports a search for one person and notification registration, not a browseable list of Greene County releases.
Search a Greene County Inmate
Begin with enough identity detail to avoid a false match. Greene custody can involve the Greene County Sheriff, CVRJ, a Greene court, and later VADOC. Geography alone does not identify the custodian. Use Virginia and the local or regional jail agency in VINELink when the person was booked into CVRJ. If the last known site was the Greene County Lockup, first account for a possible return to CVRJ after court.
- Open VINELink and select Virginia as the state.
- Choose or confirm the local or regional jail search and the agency tied to CVRJ.
- Enter the name or identifier accepted by the current interface. Try known spelling variations if the first search fails.
- Compare all displayed identity and custody details before opening a match. A similar name is not enough.
- Read the agency and event wording exactly. Call CVRJ when the result does not distinguish release from transfer.
An in-custody result means the reporting jail still lists that person in its care. A release event means CVRJ reported an exit event, but it does not rule out a successor custodian. No result is also inconclusive. The record may have stopped updating after release, an identifier may differ, or the person may be in a state, federal, or immigration system. Note: A name missing from VINE is not proof that the person entered the community or that no prior booking occurred.
Greene County VINE Release Fields
The live interface controls which fields appear. Static Virginia materials do not promise a fixed set of CVRJ labels, so the safe method is to transcribe only the current screen. Event, status, agency, and identity details may appear. A release reason, destination, photograph, and long-term history should never be assumed when they are absent.

A court disposition answers a different question. It may show that a judge set bond, dismissed a matter, or imposed a sentence. It does not show the hour when CVRJ finished identity and hold checks. Virginia materials describe phone, text, email, TTY, and in-app channels as available choices, but the live screen controls what is offered for that record. - Complete the email, text, app, TTY, or phone confirmation requested by the service.
- For automated calls, set a hard-to-guess PIN and enter it when the alert arrives to acknowledge receipt and stop repeat calls.
The Virginia Jail VINE line is 1-800-467-4943, and its TTY line is 1-866-847-1298. Registration is not a request for a certified record. Keep the agency name, event text, and alert time if the notice matters, then contact CVRJ for the underlying release entry.
Choose the contact route with care. A phone PIN acknowledges an automated call, so it should not be a birthday, address fragment, or code another person is likely to know. Text and email users should complete each confirmation step and keep contact details current. If alerts stop after a transfer, inspect the reported agency rather than assuming the person was freed. The next registration may belong in NAAVI or another custodian’s system.
Note: The official workflow advises calling the jail because not every participating facility supplies advance notice of release.
Confirm Greene County VINE Events
Jail VINE is built for current information and event notice. Updates stop after release, so it cannot replace a long-term CVRJ record. Data may lag, an identity may be entered differently, and an event can mark a transfer rather than freedom. Call Central Virginia Regional Jail at 540-672-3222 for the current movement and request an existing release record from the Custodian of Records when the date, time, authority, or destination must be documented.
VADOC’s Inmate & Supervisee Locator covers people within active state custody or supervision and updates daily. It is not a promised historical archive for all fully discharged people. If someone is absent after a state sentence, the VADOC records route includes a request form for an inactive offender. For people required to register, the Virginia Sex Offender Registry has a narrow post-custody purpose; it is not a general release database.

When Greene VINE Coverage Changes
Greene County has a sharp notification boundary. CVRJ itself uses Virginia Jail VINE, while Virginia state-prison notifications now use VADOC NAAVI. A move from the regional jail to VADOC can end the useful local registration. The person may still be in custody even though the CVRJ event says transfer or release from that agency.
Register again through the receiving system when custody changes. VADOC describes NAAVI events that may include transfer, anticipated release, a change in that date, actual release, death, name change, work release, escape or recapture, and parole events for eligible registered recipients. If someone later moves from VADOC back to a local jail, Virginia’s workflow says to register again with Jail VINE. One subscription does not travel with the person. This Greene County-specific split is the central reason to name the custodian before relying on any alert.
VADOC notification language also separates “Advanced release” from “Release date.” The first is anticipated and may arrive about 30 days before the expected event. A later notice can change it. The second marks the end of VADOC custody, although a new custodian may still receive the person. That sequence prevents a forecast from being mistaken for an accomplished release.
Greene Releases Outside Jail VINE
Federal and immigration custody do not belong in the Greene Jail VINE workflow. The Bureau of Prisons locator is the public path for a committed federal prisoner. A past date with location shown as RELEASED means the person is no longer in BOP custody, but it does not exclude federal supervision or a state, local, or immigration matter. Federal pretrial defendants may instead remain under U.S. Marshals Service responsibility, which has no public released-person locator identified in the Greene research.
ICE uses its Online Detainee Locator System. It covers current custody and a limited recent-release period, not a lasting history. These separate routes show why a failed VINELink search cannot answer every Greene County release question. First identify who held the person, then use that custodian’s event, records office, and court order.
