Greene Parole and Probation

Parole is conditional release from an eligible prison term by the Virginia Parole Board. It applies mainly to older or otherwise excepted sentences because Virginia generally ended discretionary parole for felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995. Probation comes from a court order. It may follow an active jail or prison term, or it may accompany a suspended term. Both can place a released Greene County person under rules enforced by Virginia Department of Corrections community supervision.

Physical release and legal discharge are separate events. Someone may leave CVRJ, finish VADOC confinement, and still report to a probation and parole officer. Another person may finish a local sentence with no VADOC supervision at all. The court order, VADOC locator, and official status record must be read together. The jail roster is not a supervision register, and Greene has no public jail roster in any event.

Virginia law requires attention to the offense date and the controlling exception. The classic eligibility schedule in Virginia Code § 53.1-151 cannot be applied to every sentence. The broad post-1994 rule and its exceptions appear in § 53.1-165.1. A sentence summary alone cannot establish parole eligibility.

Check Greene Post-Release Supervision

The official first check is the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator. It covers people in VADOC custody and people actively supervised in the community. Search by the seven-digit DOC number when known. For a name search, VADOC requires at least the first three letters of the first name and the full last name. Location, race, gender, and age range can narrow the result.

1. Enter the name or DOC number, acknowledge the locator disclaimer, and select Locate.
2. Compare all available identity details. Never choose a result from a similar name alone.
3. Read the location or community-supervision entry exactly as displayed. The locator updates daily and warns that details can be stale.
4. Contact Culpeper District 26 when the listed office or active supervision status needs confirmation.
5. If no result appears for a person thought to be fully discharged, request an inactive-offender status or discharge record from VADOC.

A released Greene County person from CVRJ may never enter the VADOC locator if no state supervision follows. In that situation, compare the CVRJ release entry with the Greene court order. A federal supervised-release term belongs in federal court records, not the VADOC locator. ICE reporting duties likewise use federal immigration channels. Note: A missing locator result does not prove that supervision never existed or that an earlier correctional record has been erased.

Greene Supervision Uses District 26

Greene County is assigned to VADOC Culpeper District 26, which serves Culpeper, Greene, Madison, and Orange. It is easy to choose nearby Charlottesville District 9 by geography, but that is not Greene's listed office. District 26 can route an active-supervision question to the right officer or explain where a public records question belongs. Public access limits still apply to case notes and supervision material.

The official VADOC facilities and offices directory is the source for the current district listing. The research-date directory named Stephanie MacDonald as chief, but office personnel can change. Use the office listing, rather than a person’s name, as the lasting contact route.

The directory view below shows the official district-office source. It helps distinguish the Greene supervision office from the regional jail, which is a custody facility in Orange.

Greene Parole Decisions and Release

The Virginia Parole Board makes discretionary parole decisions for people who are legally eligible. Its public meetings page lists upcoming final-vote meetings, agendas, participation links, and prior minutes. These meetings do not form a regular release calendar, and not every review reaches a public meeting. A meeting date says when the Board considered business, not when a person left a facility.

Monthly results appear on the Board’s parole reports page. Current reports use decisions such as Grant and Not Grant. A Not Grant result concerns that review. It does not always mean permanent ineligibility. A Grant also is not an executed release record. After a grant, verify the later VADOC custody event and any community-supervision status.

The monthly report can be searched by name or DOC number. Match the jurisdiction and offense details, then record the decision date, vote, and stated reasons. Virginia Code requires publication of defined decision information, but the Board and VADOC answer different questions. The Board documents the decision. VADOC documents actual custody and supervision.

The meeting record supplies context for a possible grant, while the executed VADOC release remains the controlling event.

Greene Supervision Warrants and Violations

Supervision conditions are the rules stated in the controlling probation or parole papers. A violation allegation can lead to a report, warrant, hearing, or return to custody, but the outcome depends on the issuing authority. An absconder is a person alleged to have stopped reporting or otherwise left supervision without authorization. That label is a supervision status, not a new conviction.

VADOC’s Most Wanted page is selective. It is not a complete Greene County warrant list. The page uses terms that include officer arrest warrants, court capiases, and Parole Board warrants. Omission from the page does not clear a person. District 26 or the proper law-enforcement agency must verify a claimed warrant, and the public should not approach a listed person.

Absconder

A person alleged to have left or stopped complying with active supervision.

Capias

A court order directing that a person be taken into custody.

Parole warrant

A Board warrant tied to alleged parole noncompliance.

Discharge

The official end of a custody or supervision obligation, as shown by the responsible authority.

Jail VINE can report local custody events after an arrest, but it does not prove that a probation or parole case ended. VADOC now uses NAAVI for state-custody notifications. One alert registration does not cover every movement between CVRJ, VADOC, and another custodian.

Note: Verify an alleged Greene County supervision warrant with the responsible office because public lists are partial and may not reflect same-day changes.

Greene Release Reentry Resources

CVRJ’s reentry page names councils in Louisa and Madison, but it does not identify a Greene-specific council. Neighboring services should not be treated as open to every Greene resident without confirmation. The verified regional route is OAR/Jefferson Area Community Corrections, which the state directory says serves Greene through an Orange satellite.

OAR’s role also needs care. Its local work includes community corrections and pretrial services. Pretrial supervision follows a court decision that permits release while a case is pending. It is not parole, and it does not show that a charge ended. District 26 remains the listed VADOC office for Greene probation and parole.

The Virginia community corrections directory documents Greene coverage. Call to confirm current intake rules and program scope. That avoids assuming a neighboring county council accepts a Greene referral.

Confirm Greene Supervision Discharge

Supervision ends through an official discharge, expiration, or other lawful action by the responsible authority. A person who no longer appears in the public locator may be fully discharged, outside the locator’s public scope, or affected by stale or incomplete data. Search absence is not the discharge record.

For durable confirmation, request the correctional-status record or discharge evidence through VADOC FOIA. VADOC routes active-person questions to the relevant warden, superintendent, unit manager, or probation and parole chief. General requests may be sent to FOIA@vadoc.virginia.gov or P.O. Box 26963, Richmond, VA 23261. Ask for an existing record rather than asking staff to create a new explanation.

A useful request provides the full name, DOC number if known, Greene County connection, approximate supervision dates, and the exact record sought. Ask for the final correctional status, discharge date, and releasable order or notice. Parole Board reports can confirm a Board decision, but the VADOC record is better for executed release and completed supervision.
